Jen

I started my career on a rent-a-chair basis working in a number of Salons in Middlesbrough, before acquiring The Edge (a long story!) My first passion is hairdresing and all that goes with it. I was one of the first Matrix Technicians in Middlesbrough learning the products inside out and then training Salon owners and teams all about the products. I later completed my certificated in Education and worked part-time at the local colleges teaching up and coming talent. I have a son, Mitchel and I’m a step mum to Sarah and Jol, a step grandma to Ellie and Connor. My second passion, being a creative person is art and design, making products. A number of part time courses and sales in my ‘Jewellery Designing’ have encouraged me to commence a degree in ‘Applied Art’ to become a designer maker. Recent long term illness (post streptococci reactive arthritis) has been a major set back, positively though, it has given me time to reflect and step back into a managerial role until I fully recover. To anyone with a long term illness its realizing things cannot happen straight away.

I like to think I was hand picked by Jen; we met when I was a full time student and she was teaching my class. She said I could have a day’s placement at The Edge and I have never looked back. Since the birth of my beautiful daughter Darsey I now work part time. I love all aspects of my job, my passion is Raccoon Hair Extensions and dressing hair- put-ups, curls etc. Weddings I particularly enjoy, getting to know the bride as the big day approaches and the satisfaction of being part of this special occasion. The concept of our salon fits in with my personality; Jen and Kirsty are forever telling Zoe and I how easy we have it compared to their training in the olden days!

For the past 7 years I have worked n the cruise liners, Spain, and London before coming home to my roots. My passion for beauty comes from the influence in the eastern part of the world. I use pressure points, lomi lomi, knuckling and much more in my massage. I will give professional advice for any of your concerns. I’m known as a fixer by my regular clients. Any problem I will fix, if I don’t have an immediate solution I will find one!
I love the concept of The Edge it is totally different from anywhere I have worked before. The atmosphere is relaxed for staff which is reflected in the salon atmosphere for our clients. My enthusiasm for facials comes from results and relaxation. I’m a true believer in having your own time. If I can put back a bit of me time in your life you will be soon floating back into reality. We have 4 totally different facials on offer, and 6 different types of massage. I’m more then sure one of them will be perfect for you. Visit the beauty page to find out more.

I am now a fully qualified stylist at the Edge , I love it. I am now confident at all aspects of my job, enabling me to build up a clientele and to have a successful career at The Edge. Working here is great the girls are not only my fellow employees but friends as well. I think that shows in the atmosphere of the salon. I really enjoy doing the make over's they have been a great success so far, this is the best aspect of my job making people feel good about themselves. Look at the new client offers in promotions and make an appointment today.

I have been hairdressing now for a long time, (I feel old!) Hairdressing is the only career I ever wanted and I have proved my careers officer wrong who said it was not a good choice; I have had a very good career. I have worked from Scotland to London and a few places in-between! I worked in Binns Salon for 13 years, the later four of which I was the manager. I left to work with my friend Jen (because she rang me every year saying I would love it at The Edge) Also I wanted a more easy going working environment. The Salon is very friendly and approachable; you won’t feel intimidated coming in. I have 2 lovely boys; Ollie and Archie. I spend most of my week with my boys, but still work two days in the salon- it feels like my social life! I get extremely busy; especially with Jen cutting her hours so advance bookings are advisable for me on a Monday and Saturday.
